Description

2 inch 90 degree elbow steel: Core Connecting Fitting for Industrial Pipeline Direction Change
In petroleum, chemical, gas and water treatment pipeline systems, 2 inch 90 degree elbow steel is one of the most commonly used pipe fittings. Its main function is to change the flow direction of medium in the pipeline to achieve a 90° right-angle turn, while maintaining stable transmission of fluid pressure.
Compared with ordinary welded elbows, this specification steel elbow adopts precision die-forging or seamless processing technology, with uniform wall thickness, capable of withstanding higher mechanical stress and thermal cycle load.
Material and Specification Parameters
We provide carbon steel (ASTM A234 WPB) and stainless steel series to meet the requirements of different corrosive environments and temperatures. Typical parameters are listed in the table below:
Parameter Item Carbon Steel Series Stainless Steel Series (Example)
Nominal Diameter 2 inch (DN50) 2 inch / 4 inch
Bending Angle 90° 90°
Wall Thickness Schedule Sch 40 / Sch 80 Sch 10S / Sch 40S
Connection Type Butt Weld (BW), Threaded Butt Weld (BW)
Pressure Class 150LB ~ 2500LB 150LB ~ 900LB
Applicable Standards ASME B16.9, ASTM A234 ASTM A403 (WP316/304)
Note: For highly corrosive or high-temperature working conditions, 316 stainless steel 90 degree elbow is recommended. Its molybdenum content enhances resistance to chloride pitting corrosion. For conventional water and oil media, the economical grade 304 of 2″ stainless steel elbow is available.
Application Scenarios
  • Petroleum Refining Pipelines: Used for high-temperature oil and gas direction turning in catalytic cracking units, heat-resistant alloy steel or 316L stainless steel elbows are preferred.
  • Marine Pipeline Systems: Applied in ballast water and fuel oil transmission pipelines. 4 inch 90 degree elbow stainless is commonly used with flange connection for easy disassembly and maintenance.
  • Food & Pharmaceutical Sanitary Pipelines: Require mirror polished inner wall and dead-angle free design. Custom 2-inch internal thread or clamp-type 90° elbows are available.
  • Municipal Water Supply & Fire Pipe Network: Butt weld carbon steel elbows feature high cost performance, and service life can be extended with epoxy coating.
In addition, for large flow branch points, designers often combine 4″ stainless 90° with reducing tees to realize smooth transition between main pipes and branch pipes and avoid pressure loss caused by turbulence. Engineering practice shows that for elbows manufactured in accordance with ASME B16.9 standard, the bending radius (1.5D or 1D) directly determines the pressure drop coefficient, which shall be checked against system calculation documents during model selection.
Purchasers’ FAQ

Q1: Can ordinary carbon steel elbows be used at -20℃ low temperature environment?

A: Not recommended. Low-temperature working conditions require A333 Gr.6 material with qualified impact toughness or AISI 316L stainless steel. The Charpy impact energy of conventional A234 WPB is usually lower than 27J at -20℃, which is prone to brittle fracture. Please provide the design temperature, and we will match the corresponding low-temperature steel elbow for you.

Q2: Is the actual wall thickness of 2 inch 90 degree elbow steel completely consistent with the nominal Sch 40?

A: The standard requires the minimum wall thickness to be no less than 87.5% of the nominal wall thickness (ASME B16.9). Each batch of our products undergoes ultrasonic thickness measurement and spectral material recheck, with EN 10204 3.1 certificate provided to ensure the tolerance complies with ASTM A234/A403 requirements.
