Description

Pipe Cap Weld: Secure Pipeline Termination

Welding pipe cap is an essential end sealing component for piping systems, widely applied in high-pressure and high-temperature working conditions such as petroleum, chemical, nuclear power and energy industries.
Different from threaded and socket weld caps, butt weld pipe cap delivers full-strength integration matching the base pipe grade, effectively eliminating medium leakage risks and ensuring long-term pipeline operational safety.

Material & Manufacturing Standard

  • Common Materials

    Carbon Steel: ASTM A234 WPB

    Stainless Steel: ASTM A403 WP304 / WP316 / 316L

    Low-temperature Steel: ASTM A420 WPL6

  • Production Process

Formed by cold stamping or hot pressing; end bevel processed in accordance with ASME B16.9.

  • Nondestructive Testing

    100% ultrasonic thickness measurement + magnetic particle inspection (MT);

Critical order batches are supplemented with radiographic testing (RT) for higher safety requirements.

Connection Method

Designed for butt welding connection.

The pipe cap end is prefabricated with U-type or V-type bevel to match pipe ends, enabling on-site circumferential welding. The integrated welded structure removes gaskets and thread gaps, perfectly suitable for pipelines with frequent vibration and drastic temperature fluctuation.

Core Features of Weldable Pipe Cap

  1. Zero Leakage Sealing

Weld strength coefficient exceeds 0.85 per GB/T 20801 standard, realizing permanent tight sealing.

  2. High Pressure Resistance

Covers pressure classes from CL150 to CL2500 (PN20~PN420), meeting heavy-duty industrial requirements.

  3. Full Size Coverage

Size ranges from 1/2″ to 48″, with customized maximum size up to 64″.

4 inch weld on pipe cap is the standard option for industrial cooling water and medium-pressure steam lines.

  4. Excellent On-site Weldability

All units are qualified weldable pipe caps. Bevel angle tolerance ≤±2.5°, no secondary cutting or processing needed for quick installation.

Application Scope

  • Oil & gas long-distance pipelines: Seal spare ports and blind sections
  • Power plant main steam & drain system: High-temperature resistant weld caps against cavitation erosion
  • Chemical acid & alkali pipelines: 316L weld on pipe caps steel for pitting corrosion resistance
  • Marine & shipbuilding cooling system: 4 inch weld on pipe cap for anti-impact seawater service

Professional Selection Tip

For pipeline design pressure over 6.4MPa or flammable & explosive media, please select weld on pipe caps steel and complete PWHT (Post Weld Heat Treatment) to enhance structural stability and corrosion resistance.

FAQ:

Q1: Can I use a weldable pipe cap on a threaded pipe end?

A: No. Weldable pipe caps are designed for butt-welding to plain-end pipes. If your pipe has threaded ends, you would need a threaded cap or an adapter. Direct welding onto threads will cause cracking due to stress concentration. Always match connection types.

Q2: How do I select the correct wall thickness for a 4 inch weld on pipe cap?

A: The cap wall thickness should match or exceed the pipe’s schedule (e.g., SCH40 pipe needs a SCH40 cap). For high-pressure systems (above ANSI 600), we recommend moving up one schedule (e.g., SCH80) and conducting a hydrostatic test post-welding.
